Executing our work safely is our top priority; protection of life and property are primary, schedule and profits are secondary. Safety is something we do daily; it is more than just talk. This philosophy has been the hallmark of our safety success.
Rock City Construction Company (RockCity) utilizes the services of a dedicated safety management consultant, Associated Management Consultants (AMC), a 30+ year expert in safety; AMC manages our safety program, trains our employees, and audits our performance on a weekly and monthly basis through jobsite visits and consultations. All employees are trained annually in CPR/First Aid, forklift and aerial lift safety, among other project-specific hazards such as confined space training. 100% of our project leadership team, both office and field, have completed OSHA 30 Hour Training as well as an eight hour course specific to safety management for general contracting firms. One way we measure safety performance is by monitoring Safety Performance Rates which include “Incident Rate”, “Severity Rate”, “Lost-Time Case Rate”, “DART Rate” and “Frequency Rate”; these performance rates correlate to our low EMR. We also regularly communicate our “days since” record to our field employees so that they are abreast of their accomplishments.
The RockCity Safety Program is award winning. We have received the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Workplace Safety and Health from the State of Tennessee, we are five time award winners for the AGC Construction Safety Excellence Award for Tennessee and twice have been an AGC National Construction Safety Excellence finalist.
Sustainable construction is important to the RockCity team and we demonstrate our commitment to sustainability through professional development and project-specific implementation of green building methods. Most aspects of a project are specified by the design team and dictated by owner objectives and budget; our team offers expertise in sustainable construction, from simple solutions like waste diversion to LEED certification documentation and support.
RockCity has been a member of the United Stated Green Building Council since 2004. We have three LEED Green Associate professionals and one LEED Accredited Professional on staff to support client objectives in sustainable facilities; our professionals stay abreast of sustainable building best practices through continuing education opportunities.

RockCity established a formal Diversity Business Outreach Program in 2008 to promote the utilization of Minority-owned Business Enterprises (MBE), Women-owned Business Enterprises (WBE), Veteran-owned, Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Businesses and Disabled-owned Business Enterprises as well as Small Business Enterprises (SBE) on all project endeavors. We also place high value on diversity in our workplace and strive to achieve a workforce reflective of the diversity found within the middle Tennessee community.
In support of client objectives, we manage our diversity program in compliance with local agencies, and it is our goal to exceed the standards of local government DBE programs when possible; our program has been complimented as a model program by government clients. However, we believe the management of diversity is about good business, not just meeting governmental mandates. We believe in the potential and value of all individuals, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender or any other differences. It is well-proven that diverse, heterogeneous teams promote creativity and innovation in project development and delivery; good construction quality depends on a cohesive team working towards a common goal. These beliefs are the basis for our commitment to providing an environment conducive to diversity.
The RockCity team recognizes continuous improvement as a critical effort on which the continuity of our rich corporate heritage depends; this is the logic behind establishing continuous improvement as a core value in 2010. We established an improvement process in 2008 for collecting client feedback and taking meaningful action according to that valuable feedback; we care about the building experience we create for each client, both property owners and designers.
